A man is in police custody accused of what Jackson County (WV) deputies are calling the worst case of sexual assault they have seen in two decades.
Jackson County deputies arrested Benjamin Taylor, 32, of Cottageville Monday (Oct 3), and he is charged with the first-degree sexual assault of a 9-month-old baby girl.
Deputies say they got a call from the baby’s mother that the child was unresponsive. They said she told them she had been asleep but woke up to find Taylor, her boyfriend, in the basement with her baby. She said there was significant amounts of blood on and around the child.
After speaking with Dr. Steve Eshenhaur at Jackson General Hospital, a detective learned that the child suffered trauma to her lower extremities, and bruising to her face and head. The child is in critical condition at Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital in Charleston.
Taylor in currently in South Central Regional Jail, and his bond is set to $2 million.
