Drake is still winning. The Toronto rap superstar nabbed 13 nominations for the 2016 American Music Awards, breaking Michael Jackson’s previous record of 11 nods in 1984.
The OVO leader received mentions in categories including Artist of the Year, Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Album (for Views), Favorite Rap Artist, Favorite Rap Song (for “Hotline Bling”) and Favorite R&B song, among others.
Drizzy’s rumored girlfriend, Rihanna, followed with seven nods including Artist of the Year and Favorite Female Artist.
Other nominees include Beyoncé who garnered four nominations, while The Weeknd, Fetty Wap and Bryson Tiller each grabbed three mentions apiece.
We must mentioned this: the late and great Prince received a posthumous nomination in the Favorite Soundtrack category for his 1984 album, Purple Rain. This nod might be the result of his album re-entering the top spot of the Billboard 200 album following his untimely death. We’re not mad at it.
ABC will broadcast the 2016 American Music Awards live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Nov. 20 at 8PM ET.
Winners are voted entirely by fans, with voting opening today (Oct. 10) in all categories except New Artist of the Year Un-leashed by T-Mobile, which will open on Nov. 2. You can place your votes at AMAvote.com
