Easter Eggs Recalled at Target: They Could Grow Inside You

Target is recalling 560,000 Easter toys just days of the holiday over concerns that — if eaten — the product could grow inside a person’s body.

The water-absorbing toys — Hatch & Grow Easter Eggs, Easter Grow Toys and Hatch Your Own Dino — can cause life-threatening medical complications if eaten, according to the Consumer Product and Safety Commission (CPSC).

“If the small toy is ingested, it can expand inside a child’s body and cause intestinal obstructions, resulting in severe discomfort, vomiting, dehydration and could be life threatening,” according to a statement on the CPSC website.

The CPSC is warning medical professionals and parents that there is a possibility the toys might not show up on an X-ray. Surgery is required to remove the toys.

No injuries have been reported, but consumers are urged to return the toys to any Target store for a refund.

The products were sold at Target between February and March 2017 for about $1 each.
