Jay Z Becomes The First Rapper Inducted Into The Songwriters Hall Of Fame

Joining the likes of Marvin Gaye, Al Greene, and Michael Jackson, Jay Z will become the first rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The committee announced Wednesday that Jay Z, along with Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds, Jimmy Jam& Terry Lewis, Chicago’s Robert Lamm, James Pankow and ex band member Peter Cetera, and Swedish hitmeister Max Martin will be inducted at the 48th annual, June 15th ceremony. Along with Motown founder Berrry Gordy, who was a member of the 2016 class of inductees will also be officially inducted after missing last years celebration.

Artist are only considered after 20 years of a song writing career, making 2016 the first year Jay Z could be nominated. his debut album Reasonable Doubt was released in 1996, Jay Z took to twitter to express his feelings over receiving this prestigious award:

: “This is a win for us. I remember when rap was said to be a fad. We are now alongside some of the greatest writers in history.”

February continues to be an exciting month for the Carters, with the announcement of their twins, Beyoncé wining at the Grammy’s, and Jay Z being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, 2017 id turning out to be a great year for the Carters.
