While thousands took to the street to celebrate Not My Presidents Day in protest to 45th being in office, Morehouse decided to take a different take on the day and redo it entirely. Instead of focusing on every single president Morehouse decided to focus their celebration around Barack Obama and changed the holiday from Presidents’ Day to simply Obama Day.
Presented by News One and broadcasted on the colleges Facebook Live, conversations on Obama’s legacy, as well as the influence of former first lady Michelle Obama, were highlighted at the historic institution by author and key note speaker Michael Eric Dyson, activist Michaela Angela Davis, New York Magazine’s Rembert Browne, Jamilah Lemieux of Interactive One and more. The panels covered everything from the Affordable Care Act to Obama’s connection to people of color, no topic went overlooked.
Obama also saw another accomplishment when he was named the 12th best president among historians. For the first time Obama was eligible for the CSPAN-headed survey which sakes 91 historians to rate the previous 43 presidents across ten categories. The categories include public persuasion, crisis leadership, economic management, administrative skills, and more. Bill Clinton landed at 15, George Bush at 20, the late Jon F, Kennedy at 8 and Abram Linton at number 1.
